While I was in Austin I found some pamphlets for a cruise from Australia to Naples, 1959. I think they’re from the voyage you and your family took to immigrate to the US, when you were nine. I can’t ask you, because you’re not around. But it made me think that for me to play music today, it first took you crossing the globe as a child by boat.
“Piano IV” comes from years of hearing you play Chopin and Debussy at home. In those moments I sensed you were fully in the moment, doing something you loved for yourself, not a wife, mother, office worker, or teacher, just a creator and lover of music.
