Dear everybody,

Here are eight pieces for piano and electronics. Each piece is a postcard from quarantine. Click on track info to read each accompanying text.

In spring of 2020, at the height of the coronavirus outbreak in New York, my wife and I left Brooklyn for my family’s home in suburban Austin. A ten-day stay turned into three months. We were lucky: we had a safe haven, spent time with my father and brother, and worked remotely. I also wrote this record.

This is a personal record because I’ve played piano since I was six and my mother was a piano teacher. So to record an entire album grounded in the piano while at my family home during a pandemic felt like a good way to connect with a deep part of my artistic self and find meaning in turbulent times.

I became very interested in Arte Povera. The way those artists used everyday materials, and the intimacy and roughness of the works, inspired me. I was using a shitty MIDI keyboard and an old Korg from my college days, just improvising freely, hoping to make something with a simple handmade honesty.
